Jean Baldoui Français, 1890-1955
French painter, creator of Orientalist landscapes
Born in Paris in 1890, Jean Baldoui studied under renowned artists including Jules Adler, Achille Cesbron, and Henri Lebasque. He began exhibiting in prestigious Parisian salons from 1914, notably with the Société Nationale des Beaux‑Arts and the Salon d'Automne.
His work is characterized by Orientalist landscapes: coastal towns, kasbahs, Moroccan life scenes, lively beaches, and quaint streets. He spent several years living in Morocco—Rabat and Meknès in particular—absorbing the vibrant light, colors, and atmosphere of the region.
Jean Baldoui passed away in Rabat in 1955, leaving behind a coherent body of paintings that reflect his sensitive and colorful interpretation of North African life.
